About Michael...

My Urban Garden represents one avenue of creative expression for Michael. A trained photographer, Michael is fascinated by the dichotomy of a garden...at once static, immobile, and fixed, yet alive, active, and forever changing. The garden is, to him, a malleable photograph...a source of strength and comfort amidst the chaos of the world, yet subject to both the whims of nature and the gardener's secateur.

His educational background is in the Fine Arts, with a B.F.A. from the University of British Columbia, and a Diploma in Professional Photography from the Western Academy of Photography in Victoria. The design principles acquired lend themselves well to the creation of unique gardens through the deliberate use of colour and texture, positive and negative space, and layered forms.

Born and raised in Vancouver, his twenties and early thirties were spent traveling the world in some form or another...with stints spent as a barman in a haunted London pub,a volunteer on an Israeli kibbutz, and teaching English in Japan. As well, he worked at the 1998 and 2010 Olympic Winter Games, conducted marine research aboard Japanese fishing vessels, mapped utility lines throughout B.C., and was Tour Leader of a 4-star SCUBA dive boat out of Phuket, Thailand.

Currently, Michael is studying Ecological Landcare through Gaia College, located in Burnaby. He is also an executive member of the Society for Organic Urban Landcare (S.O.U.L.)
